I pull for two teams in college sports: UNC and ETSU; UNC is in divison 1A while ETSU is in division 1AA. UNC Football can not seem to stop committing violations causing suspensions, and ETSU just restarted their football program a couple years ago; they even built a new stadium that opened last season. I am hoping to attend an ETSU game this season in person, as I feel more at home there since I attended classes there for five semesters.
Crystal and I used to attend UNC football games, as we had season tickets for a couple of years; it was fun cheering on the Heels in beautiful Kenan Stadium. I have to say I always felt a little out of place at UNC games; it could be because I felt like the only person out of 30,000 fans who had arms full of tattoos; it was probably just me being paranoid as usual.
College basketball is always exciting because UNC and ETSU have great teams year in and year out. I have not attended an ETSU basketball game since I left Johnson City, TN, so I am hoping to attend a home game sometime soon. Last year I went to Late Night With Roy in Chapel Hill, NC. The team puts on skits and whatnot, and they practice and show off their skills. I just watched while holding my breath and praying no one got injured.
As much as I hate to say it, Duke basketball will probably win its 6th NCAA title this year; they are loaded with top recruits, but the student-athlete that really stands out for them is Zion Williamson. Zion Williamson is a freak of nature, and he plays with a chip on both shoulders; he is ultimately unstoppable around and above the rim. Well, nothing would make me happier than to see the Heels put Duke in their place; I guess we will have to see what happens in what will surely be an exciting season of college basketball.
College football is kind of annoying to me with the four team playoff. I mean, the playoff is better than what it used to be, which was so-called experts voting two teams into the national championship; it put a damper on college football. The four team playoff is a little more fair than the latter, in my opinion. Still, I would rather see an eight team playoff, and I would be happy with that. Every year a college, their coach, their players, and their fans get their feelings hurt because they did not make the four team playoff. I found it very gratifying when the University of Central Florida claimed themselves National Champions last season after going undefeated, and they did not make the playoff. I have heard people say UCF would not have beaten Alabama; well, I guess we will never know.
When it comes to the NFL, I sort of like the Carolina Panthers and the Washington Redskins; that is correct: I like two teams. To be honest, I am looking for one team I can hone in on as my favorite. It is difficult for me to choose just one; so many teams and players to choose from. There are many rookie quarterbacks poised to start at their respective positions; there is one rookie I am excited to see play, and that is Saquon Barkley. Saquon Barkley may be the reason I become a New York Giants fan; I just really admire his work ethic and the effort he puts forth in games; he is exciting to watch.
In the NBA, I really do not have a favorite team, but I do enjoy watching the games, and I enjoy watching LeBron James. I kind of like the Charlotte Hornets because Michael Jordan is the owner, and MJ is arguably the greatest of all time when it comes to professional basketball. I would say LJ is also in the conversation of being the GOAT, but I will have to see what transpires in the next couple of years before I give my take on it, but I will say the battle of the GOAT is tight as far as I am concerned; we shall see.
I tend to pull for LeBron James because I enjoy watching him play; he makes some awesome shots and plays on offense and defense. I also kind of like the Boston Celtics; however, I do not get to watch a lot of NBA basketball because my wife does not care for it, and we only have one television to choose from right now. I am not trying to call Crystal out or anything; she likes what she likes. Oh well, at least I can watch ESPN to catch up on the action regardless of what sport it is.
Well, it is super late because I could not sleep, so I wanted to touch on sports a little more. You may think I am a bandwagon jumper when it comes to professional sports, but at least I do not pull for teams just because they win! Also I pull for UNC and ETSU regardless of the sport; it could be bowling and I would cheer for them. So, it seems I am loyal when it comes to college sports, yet when it comes to professional sports I am all over the page. Hopefully, I will get it right one day.
Take care and God bless!
Chris
