I have always loved stock car racing, and of course, race cars! It is probably because my Daddy had a race car, and I got to see him go around the race track once in his American flag helmet when I was a kid; now when I say once, I mean he went around the track one time before something went wrong with the engine and the red and gold Chevy had to be towed to the pit area. I would be lying if I said I was not disappointed because I wanted to see him race; I knew he would excel on the track had the engine remained intact, but at least I got to sit in the car and pretend I was racing while it sat in the driveway.
I have been to a couple NASCAR races, and honestly, my favorite part was smelling the racing fuel. I was in Rockingham, NC with my brother when Dale Earnhardt won his 7th Championship, so that was really cool. I also went to a race in Charlotte, NC ; however, I was in a box seat, so I did not get to smell the racing fuel, but it was still fun to watch. I have also been to some local race tracks to watch races and that was interesting not being a kid or watching Daddy in the number 11; though I could still see him making that lap in my mind while watching the other cars.
The reason I am reminiscing with you about stock car racing and race cars is we bought a street legal race car! That is correct! I am talking about my dream car. I have always, always wanted a race car that was street legal, and I have always wanted to be a race car driver; so now that I have a race car, my dream has come true!
We bought the car from a man in North Carolina; the car belonged to his brother who was building the car when he got sick and passed away. It may sound strange, but it was an honor to be able to get the car considering the mans brother never got to finish it; obviously his brother had a desire to race just like my Daddy, and just like me!
I wanted the car so bad when I saw it listed, I had a hard time believing that I was the one who ended up with the car. The man said he looked at my profile and thought I seemed like a good guy, so he answered me when I contacted him when he had ten more people interested. What can I say? Kindness goes a long way, and people notice when God is working in your life.
Although Crystal takes great pride in the fact the car is in her name, I am just so thankful for this car, and I am thankful for Crystal who helped me get it. I also have to thank my Daddy because had it not been for him I would have never wanted a race car, and of course, I have to thank Jesus Christ for supplying us with every thing we need through His grace, and yes, sometimes He even provides what we want because that is how much He loves us. Do not worry Jesus: I will not go more than 5 mph over the speed limit.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this entry; it is silly I know, but this car keeps my Daddy’s dream alive somehow. The car also keeps my dream alive as well: I have Daddy’s nickname “Wild Bill” over the driver-side door, so every time I get in I will think of him and remind myself I will see him again.
“If I were a car I would be a race car” -Me
Drive and stay safe, and God bless!
Chris
