Mission Advance Conference

Crystal and I are in Charlotte, NC for the Mission Advance Conference for the Church of The Nazarene on the North Carolina District. Crystal and I are helping out with registration among others. Crystal is doing most of the work because I am in over my head really; I am just handing out bags and stones that say thank you. It sounds pretty easy but it is hard to stay focused when you are tired.

Being here has given me a chance to reflect and look forward to our future. I really believe we are witnessing God starting to work in our lives, and we are excited for the future: even in a world of uncertainty. Don’t get me wrong; God has blessed us to no end. God blessed me when He brought Crystal into my life; Crystal introduced me to the Nazarene Church, and I just felt like I belonged. Sure, I get looks because of my tattoos but I can not say I blame them. I now have a local Minister’s License, and I must say I have not seen many pastors covered in tattoos.

It is weird being at a conference such as this because of the way I look. Some are nice to me and even speak to me; unfortunately some look at me like I am a freak and have nothing to say to me. I am use to it by now, so it doesn’t bother me much anymore. I can only imagine how it could be if not for my awesome wife; people put up with me because of her. After all, I am the one who thought it would be cool to have more tattoos than I can count, but God works in mysterious ways.

Enough about me and my issues. This Mission Advance Conference is bitter sweet because Dr. Greg Mason is retiring, yet we welcome a new District Superintendent for the North Carolina district. Dr. Mason and his lovely wife Elaine have been a huge blessing to the district. I imagine Dr. Mason’s biggest mistake would be my greatest accomplishment, yet he always comes up with a big ol’ grin and shakes my hand. More importantly, I am grateful that Dr. Mason and Elaine were there for Crystal. Crystal and I will miss seeing them on the district, and we wish them well in future endeavors under God’s protection. Im out…

Take care and God bless

Chris

  2. It’s not about how you look. It’s how amazing you’ve always been on the inside. When people get to know you, they are richly blessed. If they don’t take the time to do that, they’re the ones missing out.

I love your courage and honesty in this blog. We need more people with tattoos who live with mental illness to answer the call to ministry. You help us to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and to give so many people hope! I believe God will do amazing things through your ministry! Thank you saying yes to Jesus.
